Summary of Baby/toddler Sleep training

Whn I published a post on baby sleep training,i was actually little apprehensive too but with my readers overwhelming response,I am now confident that I am not the only one who got success in it or there  are others who wants to try it too.but I only say try it once ur baby is 3 or 4 months though u can start a simple bed time ritual.
see my post on How my Toddler learnt to sleep on her own?

One of my reader told her story abt how she trained her three months old baby to sleep on her own  and that in her own room.thats wonderful!
Though I know it worked for me but its not a magic that can work within seconds,it takes time.
for a baby who is used to some routine,a new routine and bedtime schedule is not easy to accept.it might takes a month for him to adjust but still one shud try.

some time people judge u too when u talk about stopping middle of the night feed.I agree that baby's are growing rapidly and they need to get nourishment .but still once baby start eating solids properly, they don't wake up at night coz they are hungry only,But they get used to feeding to sleep that they demand it whenever they wake up,
yes if ur baby is not calming down at night without feeding,u must feed her.(sometimes they cud be hungry too)

so I have tried to summarized the important points related to baby sleep training in their order

  1. Drain energy before bedtime-obviously playa lot in day and evening with ur lo,so he knows that days are for plays and night are for sleeping.
  2. Well feed for dinner-feeding ur baby well for dinner is also important, though our little ones can't eat much at one time, so why not give them  a five star hotel meal, divide it in 3 course meal . start with a soup or a starter ,after half an hr  a filling dish and finally a dessert if possible ;) can also give some snacks, and finally a bottle of milk /or breastfeed before bed time.if u breastfeed to sleep, then feed her before she is sleepy.break the link between feeding and off to sleep.otherwise ur baby wud keep on looking for feeding whenever she wokes up thru out the night
  3. Moving up bedtime-it will give u some more time to spend with ur lo.its good for u too, instead of watching tv why not read a book to ur baby, sing to her and sleep early.
  4. Sleep ritual or Bedtime routine-routines are always boring, they can make anyone sleepy. So follow a simble bedtime ritual.
  5. Give a safety object or Comforter to baby-After the ritual give ur baby something to cuddle to. baby's wake up night sometime seeking comfort or to cuddle to someone,so why not have a sleep buddy for him,cud be anything..... soft toy, a soft blanket or a pillow
  6. Make bedtime boring-No talking to baby and less eye contacts while baby is trying to sleep on her own,if needed only lullabies and patting or stroking to comfort the little one.
  7. whn baby wakes up at night,
  •  dont jump immediately to her, give her sometime to adjust  on her own, let her try to sleep on her own again,
  •  if still not able to sleep again, try patting or sing or comfort her.
  •  if still crying check diaper too(it cud be wet too sometimes)chk whether she's not feeling hot or cold or uncomfortable.
  •  if screaming, feed her(babies cud be hungry too but toddlers only if not fed well) only don't jump to it immediately,

sometimes babies(above four months) wake up every hour and go to sleep after feeding.again wake up after......it shows they might not be hungry, they might be looking for comfort too.

P.S. do not expect newborns to sleep through the entire night, they are supposed to wake up at night and feed as they are growing very rapidly.

even sleep trained babies do wake up somedays at night whn they are not well,or have cold  or not fed well(fussy eater, refusing all food during dinner)so even after training the baby to sleep on their own still there wud be days whn they woke up crying and u have to rock or feed them to sleep too.and again they get into this habit, and all Sleep training goes for a toss; but still keep trying.

sleep deprived parents are not good for babies either ;)
happy sleeping.

  2. In order for children to grow and develop properly they must get adequate and consolidated sleep. Children who sleep 10 to 12 hours per night awaken well-rested, ready to cope, attentive, cheerful, and best able to learn from their environment...
