How to prepare baby food ???

Baby food for six month old is mostly in puree form or soup form or cud be  mashed.
The first step of baby food preparation is usually peeling and then cutting or chopping the desired fruits or vegetables.

Peeling or no peeling

some people wud suggest to leave the skin on(as it contains more fibres) but for a six month old baby it is difficult to digest the food easily and also with skin on u wont get the consistency of puree that smooth,so I wud suggest peel off the skin,but if u r cooking apple stew for an older baby than u can go for peel on to,so its up to you. 

Next step after cutting veggies or fruits is steaming or boiling or pressure cooking .The question is how to do it? do we need a special appliance for cooking baby food or can just use the regular grinder at home.

one of the way is use any baby food appliance.They quite make the entire process of steaming,pureeing or straining baby food quite easy and less messy, but they come costly too.
 
second way is doing the two process separately.
•u can boil vegetables in pan or pressure cook in pressure cooker or steam in a food steamer.
•then pureeing in a regular grinder or using hand blender.


Boiling vs pressure cooking vs steaming

If u boil in a pan,with lots of water,a lots of nutrients get lost through evaporation even if you use the left over liquid too.so its best to use little amount of water to boil.(just enough to cover the food).

pressure cooking is somewhat better than boiling,at least it cook the vegetables fast by developing pressure inside and less loss of nutrients by evaporation

How to steam veggies or fruits?

Either u can buy food steamer or u can just by a pan that comes with steaming basket (comes around for Rs 600 to Rs 900 online with idli stand too). another thing is u can go for a grid or steaming basket that comes for
pressure cooker too. they are like separator or a plate that have holes in it,u have to put little water in cooker and put veggies on grid.they get steamed and become soft by the vapours coming from holes but not get boiled so the nutrients in food remain intact .

How to puree veggies or fruits?
If u want to go for a regular grinder,just buy a new one and make sure it is not that big as usually we have to prepare very little amount food for babies unless u are going for freezing food. only proplem with grinder is cleaning it in end,this is the reason why i like hand grinder,u can puree in a very small container to a big container,cleaning is not at all a problem too.

straining soup............obviously if u r making clear soups then u wud need a simple soup strainer,that i think i shud not even write about.
